First launched in October, 1879, this was the first attempt by the ‘Lit’ at publishing a newspaper. The following year it was replaced by the Varsity.

Ellis was Professor of Applied Chemistry in the School of Practical Science and later second dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. Sketch was possibly drawn by his good friend, Maurice Hutton,, Principal of University College.
