Cursive handwriting in brown ink and pencil; long lines, 20 to a full page (19 x 15.5 cm.).
Manuscript journal beginning in London, March 1808 and ending in March 1812; with maps and illustrations recording events leading up to the Battle of Corunna (La Coruña, Spain), in 1812. Simcoe died at the Battle of Badajoz, 6 Apr. 1812.
Two pen and ink drawings of Leiria and Corunna and two col. maps, one of Ireland and the other of the town and harbour of Corunna, possibly in Simcoe's hand bound in.
With a letter written to his sister, Eliza Simcoe with a map of Ireland on the verso and with a poem entitled "How sweet the world's delights at distance eyed!" laid in.
