Ginsberg Photo 1

Description

The University of Toronto is now home to the largest collection of Allen Ginsberg photographs in the world. The collection, made possible by a donation from the Larry & Cookie Rossy Family Foundation, contains almost 8,000 prints, with over 7,600 photos housed at the Fisher Library, and another 236 silver gelatin prints at the University of Toronto Art Centre. Spanning the years 1944 to 1997, the photographs comprise a nearly complete archive of the late Beat poet Ginsberg's surviving photographs. It includes original snapshots and prints of various sizes. Most of the photographs are candid images of many of Ginsberg's friends and acquaintances, including many from the storied Beat literary movement. The prints on display provide a visual insight into Ginsberg’s personal relations and his artistic view on the male body.
